Lost and Found - Chapter 7

Charity closed her dresser as she finished putting on her school uniform. It was the second day of school and already it felt as though she had gone there for years. It was early but Charity didn't mind - she had slept badly and was sure that she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep now.

She went throught the normal morning routine, making her bed...

 ...brushing her teeth...

...and preparing breakfast. All the while the events of the previous day swept over her mind like a tidal wive - drowning out everything and making itself very well known.

Breakfast was a quiet, solemn event. Neither father nor daughter wanted to start talking about what had happened and so the unspoken words hung like black smoke in the air between them.

"Bye dad," Charity mumbled as she stood up from the table and brought her plate to the sink.
When she was out of the door, Kyle scowled angrily at his plate. He didn't know what to say or feel and eventually decided that it would be best to just stay late at work so that he wouldn't have to face his daughter that evening. And although his mind was screaming Coward! at him, he stuck to his decision like glue.

"Hi!" Charity exclaimed excitedly as she saw her sister in the school parking lot.
"Hey..." Juliet mumbled, and ran a hand through her hair. "I have something to say to you."
Charity's face fell as she thought that her sister was going to say she couldn't hang out with 'that stupid scholarship girl' anymore.
"My dad's - the one that raised me - got cancer and I have no clue who to tell about it," Juliet said, as tears started to gather in her eyes.

"Oh my god!" Charity exclaimed, and took her sister in her arms. "I'm so sorry!"

"Hey!" the blonde guy Charity hadn't recognised the day before said, interrupting the volley of comforting words that Charity was giving Juliet. "I'm Asher... remember me?"
"Asher?" Charity said, testing the name on her tongue. "Asher who?"
"Asher Deen. You know, from nursery?"
"The one that used to wipe his boogers on my hair?" Charity said, laughing.
Asher blushed. "Yeah, huh, that one."
  "Don't worry, you're forgiven."
"Hey guys, I'm just going to go over to Perpetua," Juliet said, excusing herself.

"Hey guys," Juliet greeted. "What's going on?"
"I was just telling Trashy Bluebird here that her shoes looked ridiculous," Perpetua sneered.
"Well," Juliet laughed, "I can't disagree."
Juliet detested the ugly silver-haired snob, but she knew that if she took the side of Suzie Jeffers, or 'Trashy Bluebird', she could be bullied for life.

Suzie looked away with tears in her eyes. She had coloured her normally mousy brown hair blue a year ago because all her friends at the normal Riverview school had done it. Just a month after, her father had given her the news she would be going to the Phillipe Trez College. She hadn't come out of her room for the entire weekend because she had been so furious. This was what her act of colouring her hair had done. Delivered her the name Trashy Bluebird.
"I... I gotta go," she mumbled through a choked throat.

She ran down the school lane, tears streaming down her cheeks.

She went into the bathroom and stared out of the window, her blue hair streaming out down her back. Little did she know someone was standing behind her.

A red-haired girl who looked suspiciously like the one that had helped Perpetua bully her, stood infront of her.
"Hey... I saw what those guys did to you. Bad luck, eh? I'm Charity Paystone, by the why, and I actually like your hair," she said.
"What?" Suzie said, aghast. No one had ever said that they liked her hair before. And here was this perfectly strange girl telling her she liked her hair?
"Just... Well, I told you," Charity said, confused.

Suzie, overjoyed that she had found someone that liked her, threw her arms around Charity and hugged her.
"Thank you so much," she whispered.
Just then, the bell went for their first class.

Ms. Havens sat at her brown desk and regarded the new amount of pupils she had. They all seemed quite different except for two red-headed girls who were, obviously, twins. Just as she was about to begin the lesson, the door opened to reveal the headmaster.

He stood infront of the doorway, looking stern, like he always did. Mr. Yung stalked forward to the front of the classroom.

"Ms. Havens," he began quietly. "I have just recieved some news regarding Juliet Suns and I would like you to excuse her from your lesson, if you please."
"Yes, Mr. Yung, of course," Ms. Havens replied.

 She stared sorrowfully at the young girl who was sitting near the front of the classroom. She had heard this morning in the staffroom that her father had gotten cancer, and she was nearly certain this 'news' had something to do with Juliet's father. She said a silent prayer for the girl and then said to her;
"Juliet, dear, would you go with Mr. Yung, please?"

Juliet got up and took a step towards to front of the class. She didn't, not for anything, want to meet the nervous, worrying looks of her class mates, expecially her sister.
"Follow me please, ms. Suns," Mr. Yung said.

A few minutes later she was seated in one of the fancy overstuffed chairs in the headmaster's office.
"Ms. Suns, I have some news regarding your father. He... he was taken into the hospital because he had had a dramatic heart attack this morning just after you left," Mr. Yung said and then looked away with sadness in his eyes.
"What's wrong?" Juliet whispered, though she didn't want to know.
"Your father, Juliet, won't be coming back... ever."

Lost and Found - Chapter 6

The day moved awfully slowly for the girls, but finally it was 4 o'clock and the bell rang for the end of school.

Charity and Juliet sat down on the bench outside the school walls and started talking.
"So we go to your house," Charity stated, "and ask your mum if I am actually your sister?"
"That's right! And then we make friendship bracelets!" Juliet exclaimed, excited.
"Why would we make friendship bracelets?" Charity enquired, laughing silently to herself at the childishness of Juliet.
"Because we've been separated for 17 years... Oh, isn't this romantic? I never thought I'd have a sister - and certainly not a twin!"
"I didn't either... And it actually seems more like a story than real life to me..." Charity replied, biting her lip.
"But it is real life! Now let's go ask my - our - mum," Juliet laughed.

When they came to stand in front of the house, Juliet dropped her head and sighed. She had been excited and confident just a moment before, but now she wasn't so sure. She had no clue what her mother was going to say and if she'd like what she heard.

"I'm sure it'll be okay," Charity comforted.

Once they were all seated comfortably on the living couch, River started telling the story of what had happened when they were children.
"Your father and I..." she started.

When the story ended Juliet looked away with sadness and confusion in her heart. She had grown up thinking that Simon was her father - and now in one day she had found out that she wasn't his daughter. She felt angry at her mother for never telling her.

"Well... I'd better go then... I'd like to talk to my dad about this," Charity said as she stood up. She fiddled with her fingers before saying, "Thanks... for everything."
"No problem," River replied, "Now am I going to get a hug or not?

"Sure," Charity said, and chuckled. "Bye."
"Yes, goodbye. And don't hesitate to come by anytime you want to," River said.
"I won't... hesitate I mean. I'll come by sometime," Charity said, and with that she left.

Juliet scowled at her mother after she had waved goodbye to Charity.
"How come you never told me?" she hissed at her.
"How could I? I never had the time or the opportunity to," River said. "I'm so sorry, Jules."
"Don't call me that!" Juliet yelled, and ran into her room.

The door slammed as Juliet ran into her room, tears of anger and hurt streaming down her face. River looked away and mentally kicked herself for not telling her daughter sooner. Now she was stuck with an angry Juliet, which was never a good thing.

"Hey dad," Charity started later that evening as they were having soup for dinner. "Who's my mum?"
Kyle coughed as he took in the unexpected question.
"Who's my mum?" Charity repeated, louder.
"Honey... could we talk about this later?" Kyle said, biting his lip.
"No, I want to talk about this now," Charity said.

Kyle stood up and walked to his computer.
"You'll clean those, won't you?" he said, avoiding the question entirely.
Anger bubbled up in Charity.

"You!" she screamed, stopping him in his tracks. "You lied to me! For 17 years you lied to me! I know who my mother is! Her name is River and I have a sister called Juliet! You raised me and let me think I didn't have a mother. You made me think she abandoned me - US! But you abondoned her! I know she cheated on you - but how could you! You lied to me!" and then, softer, dropping her arms to her sides and letting the tears fall freely.

   "You lied to me..."

Charity slept uneasily that night. Her mind was racing and it was 2:30 when she finally fell into an uneasy sleep.

Juliet ate late that night. She had fallen to sleep with tears on her cheeks and woken up at 10:00. She had walked into the kitchen and ate some leftover Mac 'n Cheese. After eating, her mother and father had sat down next to her. They had a serious expression on their faces and when she saw her mother's bloodshot eyes she knew that something was wrong - terribly wrong.

"Juliet..." her father started. "We - I - have some news for you. I..."

"I have cancer."

That was the 6th chapter of Lost and Found. I know... I know... 4 chapters in one day?? How do I do it?? Haha... Anyway, I hope you liked it and please comment to tell me how to improve and to tell me your thoughts about it so far. Thanks for reading!

Lost and Found - Chapter 5

Juliet stood on the front porch of her new house in Riverview. It was a beautiful pink and white cottage, dotted with flowers and wooden arches. It was pretty, but already the girl missed her High Rise apartment in Bridgeport. The thought that she would be stuck in the middle of nowhere for at least a few years made her scowl. It was bad enough that her mother and father had decided that she the only way she would be allowed to go to the elite college, The Phillipe Trez College, was if she passed her last exam with high grades - at least an A. Luckily she had and the thought of a rich, stuck up college cheared her up.

She fell asleep quickly on her new, and luckily pink and purple, bed.
Juliet woke up the next morning in a fowl mood. The bright sun and green grass were working on her nerves like a cheese grater. The next day was her first day of school and she hadn't done anything to prepare. Firstly, she thought,  I have to get my hair done and that stupid school uniform out of the way. So that's what she did.

Charity stared at her reflection in the mirror with a nervous expression. Her hair was a complete fail and the uniform looked like she had peed on it. In short, Charity thought she would rather die than go to the new school. She had gotten into the college with a scholarship and she knew that any person that got into the Phillipe Trez College with a scholarship was severly down graded. It pained her to think what all the arrogent people would do to her. However, even if she could pee in her pants (or skirt for this time) she wasn't going to step down. If she did, she knew her father would be angry with her.

Charity walked into the living room and gave her father a hug.
"Bye dad," she said, laughing as he squeezed her tightly and wished her good luck.

The clock on the kitchen wall said she was 5 minutes late. Great, Charity thought, I'm going to be late on my first day of school.

Juliet looked at herself in the mirror with satisfaction. Luckily, she had had time to go to the hairdressers the day before after buying her school things. The uniform annoyed her but she knew that she would be able to pull it off.

She pushed her hair out of her face as her mother called her for breakfast. Waffles, she thought with disgust, I'd rather have a salad for breakfast than those disgusting pieces of fat.
"Hurry up, Jules! You don't want to be late for school on your first day!" her mother shouted.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming!" She replied.
Half an hour later she was sitting in the baby pink car she had gotten for her birthday just before they moved to Riverview. She remembered throwing a tantrum for not getting the red convertible she had wanted, but now realised that a red convertible would've been too expensive together with the expenses of the college.

Charity stood in a small group of teenagers infront of a stern looking man. Already, some of them had said behind her back that she looked tacky. The only one she'd gotten a smile from was a blue haired girl who she recognised as Suzie Jeffers, the daughter of the Mayor. Another one, a blonde, she knew was Perpetua Pearls, who insisted she was the neice of the queen. The boy she didn't recognise.
"And that was how Phillipe Trez founded the school. You may now go to your lessons," the man ended.

Charity stayed behind for a second.
"Would you happen to know where the toilet is, please?" She asked.
"Of course, dear. Just down that corridor over there, first door to the right," he explained.
"Thanks," she said, and made her way down to the bathroom.

Juliet ran down the inner courtyard of the school, she was late and she knew it, but she didn't mind. She had heard from someone that when you were early you had to listen to some boring speech from the headmaster, and she wasn't in the mood for that.

"Hello, and who might you be?" an elderly man asked as she walked in through the door.
"My name is Juliet Suns. Please accept my apologies for being late, sir, but I had some problems," Juliet replied.
"Yes yes, well, you best go to your lessons. And I am Mr Yung, the headmaster. Now, chop chop!" he said.

But instead of going to her first class, she walked straight to the bathroom. She had noticed through her reflection in the window that her hair had been messed up a bit. She scowled at the bathroom door as she heard a flush. Great, she wasn't alone.

As she looked at herself in the mirror, she saw someone stepping out of the toilet and thought she was dreaming.

The girl that looked strangely like her looked at her strangely.
"Who are you? And why do you look so much like me?" the girl whispered, scared.
"I am Juliet Suns. And who the hell are you?"
"I'm Charity Paystone. Is this supposed to be some kind of joke? Making me scared by making someone look freakishly like me?"
"I don't exactly know... But what I do know is that you must be some kind of clone of me. I know! We must be separated twins!" Juliet exclaimed, excited at her discovery.
"Okay... That's weird... I never thought I'd be related to the daughter of the most famous actor ever," Charity said, uncertain of what to think.
"Oh, don't worry. We should go to my house after school and ask my mother about it. She knows everything!"
Charity thought this was stupid and something a seven year old, not a seven-teen year old would say, but she didn't complain. She had always wanted to know who her mother was and this was her opportunity to find out.
  "Fine," she replied.

That was it for the 5th chapter of Lost and Found. I hope you liked it and please comment with what you thought!
